CBCP belittles SWS survey on RH bill
MANILA, February 19, 2009—Is the Catholic Church interfering with government’s supposed weak policy on population? For an official of the Episcopal Commission on Family and Life (ECFL) of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP), it’s not meddling, but a strong campaign against “immoral” laws. ECFL executive secretary Fr Melvin Castro said the church has a bold advocacy which shows whenever there are pending bills concerning family and life. The CBCP official was reacting to oft-repeated criticisms that the Catholic Church was all but bullying government into discarding policies intended to reduce the population. Six out of 10 Manila residents believe that the church is a hindrance to government policies on reproductive health (RH) and family and planning, a new study said.

Right, they advocate that women accept their role as baby factories. They advocate controlling how people ought to live, prescribed by their antiquated beliefs. They don’t like it when their flock starts thinking for themselves. And if it requires meddling in government affairs, then to hell with the constitution.
But Castro said they will still press on with the campaign against the passage of the RH bill, which will make artificial family planning services widely available. “It’s not a numbers game. We are not really what others will say. We are just following what is stated in the Bible,” he said.

That says it all right there. If there ever was any doubt, here’s an official position of the Catholic church. They don’t care about your opinions, they only care about what’s written in a book written by ignorant bronze age goat herders. Dogma trumps real people every time.
