Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist is a teen romantic comedy, but unlike most of the genre, it’s not about losing one’s virginity or even about getting a date for the prom. It’s a character-driven movie with a simple plot, outrageous teen antics, and good music. Michael Cera got another good role since Arrested Development, playing his patented Awkward-but-Good-Heatred-Teen with a little more angst and a lot more charisma. Kat Dennings should play more roles like this, it’s perfect for her (not that I’m bashing her role in The House Bunny or The 40 Year Old Virgin).
The rest of the cast are funny and vivacious, especially the gay bandmates. They’re a blast! A lot of people are talking about the soundtrack, which is pretty good. Even I like it and I consider myself more of a hard rocker.
Good film, great characters, nice music. Oh how great it must be to be young again. 4/5
